Kinston Medical Specialists, PA was opened in 1971 when an Internal Medicine physician started the new corporation in Kinston. In 1977, a Cardiologist joined the group and a multi-specialty, physicians group was formed to provide multiple medical services to patients in the surrounding communities.
A few years later, in the mid-1980s, a Gastroenterologist was added; then another Internal Medicine physician, and then a Hematologist/Oncologist followed by a Pulmonologist, joined the busy group practice. By 1988, there were six physicians practicing at 313 Airport Road. The multi-specialty group provided a multitude of medical services to their patients, and the group expanded their operations to include a satellite clinic in Trenton and another satellite clinic in Snow Hill. Each of the physicians would travel once a week to the satellite clinics to provide local medical services to those communities.
By 1991, observing that they were running out of space, the group made a decision to move to 701 Doctors Drive, Suite N, so that the group could continue to grow with the addition of new physicians and medical services in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, and Hematology/Oncology. The group had also added additional satellite clinics in Pink Hill, LaGrange, and Richlands by 1997. With the addition of satellite clinics, came the recruitment of Family Practice physicians and Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants to all of the satellites. The Trenton operation was sold in 2009.
The Division of Hematology/Oncology, which today occupies the original clinic building at 313 Airport Road, also began travelling to Kenansville to develop a Cancer Outreach program in 2005.
The group now consists of 5 Internal Medicine physicians, 2 Hematology/Oncology physicians, 3 Family Practice physicians, 2 Cardiologists, 1 Gastroenterologist, and 9 Mid-Level (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) providers.
The medical services that are provided include complex laboratory processing and results; several beneficial imaging studies; chemotherapy infusion services; clinical trials; endoscopy procedures; and more.
We are proud of where we came from and are thankful for the opportunity to continue to serve the communities and people who seek our medical services.
